Want to make the most of your time at the Major Fair? Here are a few simple ways to get prepared before you go:
- Reflect on your interests and strengths. Take advantage of the self-assessment tools available from the Career Development Center to help you better understand your values, interests, and skills so you can find an academic program that best suits you.
- Review the list of majors and departments. Take note of a few majors you want to meet with.
- Download and review our Major Fair Guide. This handout includes suggested questions to ask, things to think about after the fair, and a space to take notes.
- Keep an open mind! You might discover a major you hadn't previously considered that really sparks your interest.
Next Steps After the Major Fair
You’ve explored, asked questions, and gathered great information—now it’s time to make the most of it. Choosing a major is a process and below are some next steps you can take as you continue to explore the best fit for you:
- Review your notes from the Major Fair. Look back at what stood out to you. Were there any majors that completely disinterested you? Were there any that got you feeling excited?
- Follow up with faculty advisors. If something piqued your interest, send an email to ask more questions, set up a meeting, or learn about class visits or department events.
- Talk it over with your academic advisor. Your academic advisor can help you process your Major Fair experience, connect your interests to academic programs, and help you plan a path forward.
- Schedule a Career Counseling Appointment. Meet with a Career Counselor to learn more about career opportunities related to your areas of interest.
- Declare, change, or add the academic program(s) you have decided on. Once you have made a decision, don't forget to officially declare! Use the Change of Major, Minor or Certificate form to initiate your request.
