What is Impaction?
Impaction means that a campus anticipates more qualified applicants than available spots for which there is adequate state funding. In order to manage enrollment within current budget constraints while preserving the highest quality academic experience and services to students, CSU Channel Islands has had to declare a number of academic programs impacted for first time freshmen and transfer students.
The following programs are awaiting preliminary impaction status from the California State University Chancellor’s Office:
- Bachelor of Science Nursing
For impacted majors, all candidates must meet regular University admission requirements, in addition to any supplemental coursework.
Bachelor of Science Nursing
CSUCI proposes to continue transfer impaction for the BS Nursing program.
Admission Criteria for Fall 2025
Freshmen applicants
Applicants will continue to apply as Pre-Nursing major and are held to the minimum CSU eligibility criteria. Students who are admitted to CSUCI are admitted to the University, not the Nursing program. Freshmen will not be eligible to apply to the Nursing program until they have met the minimum supplemental admission criteria.
Transfer applicants
When applying for admission, transfer applicants will select the Nursing major along with selecting an alternative major. Applicants not admitted by the Nursing program will be considered for admission to their alternate major.
Second Bachelor Degree applicants
Second bachelor degree applicants must be admitted to the program in order to enroll at CSUCI. Students not admitted by the Nursing program will not be eligible to enroll at CSUCI and must seek alternative educational arrangements.
