When will we get more electric vehicle charging on campus?

CSUCI’s sustainability program is working closely with Transportation & Parking Services (TPS) to expand access to electric vehicle charging stations on the CSUCI campus. The university will be adding thirty (30) new charging ports in the A8 parking lot (behind the Broome Library) in the near future. This project has been delayed due to supply chain issues, but is expected to be completed in Summer 2024. In the meantime, sustainability and TPS are exploring other options to expand EV charging.

Do you have to pay to charge an electric vehicle on campus?

Currently, electric vehicle (EV) charging is free to all drivers on campus. The new EV charging stations being installed in the A8 parking lot (summer 2024) will require a payment for use. This payment is required to support the availability and maintenance of EV charging on campus. The exact fee is still being determined, though our aim is to make it as affordable as possible.

Does CSUCI compost food waste?

Yes! CSUCI offers food waste collection in all campus buildings. Food waste collection bins may be found in hallways or on countertops in staff/faculty lounge areas. The bins can be identified by their green lids and the food waste collection signs/stickers on the bins.

What can I compost on campus?

At this time only FOOD can be collected in the food waste bins on campus. Paper and plastic products, such as paper towels, napkins, plates, straws, etc. should not be placed in food waste bins. Even items that claim to be compostable are not accepted in the food waste bins at this time. However, food scraps of all kinds are accepted, including meat, dairy, vegetables, fruits, grains, and tea bags/coffee grounds. Both raw and cooked foods are accepted.

What happens to the food waste collected at CSUCI?

Food waste collected at CSUCI is picked up by the university’s waste hauler, EJ Harrison. The material is taken to the new Mountainview facility in Oxnard. Material sent to Mountainview must be clean and free of other debris as it will be processed and turned into organic fertilizer or renewable energy.
