Earlier this year , select campus community members started using a new security service on campus called 2-Factor Authentication (2FA).
2-Step Authentication, also known as a two-factor authentication or multi-factor authentication (MFA), provides a second layer of security when logging in to systems or services. At CI , you will use your myCI ID account and password as usual, and then use a mobile phone app, authentication token, or other available authentication method to verify your access.
By combining something you know (your account and password) with something you have (your mobile device or authentication token), you can protect the login to your account from remote attacks if your credentials are compromised. Additional information regarding why CI is making this change and how it may affect you may be found here. We have also provided some FAQ's as well.
The rollout of 2-Factor Authentication will continue over the coming weeks with the goal of having all faculty and staff protected by 2FA by the end of November.
Please contact CI's Information Security department at infosec@csuci.edu if you have any questions.
