Who we are

The LRC is a community of staff, faculty, and students working collaboratively as educators to support the academic confidence and success of all students at CSUCI. We specialize in providing tutoring support for Math, Nursing, Spanish, and other Quantitative Reasoning & STEM-based subjects.

Join our Team

Experience the many benefits of working at the LRC including competitive wages, a positive working environment, and the opportunity to work closely with faculty members and students. Tutoring is a service that will strengthen your ability to learn and retain academic material in your courses. The LRC prioritizes students by offering a flexible work schedule and opportunities for advancement that contribute to students’ professional development. Our training program provides the opportunity to receive your CRLA Level 1 and/or Level 2 certifications. Best of all, Peer Tutors are academic leaders on our campus who make a difference in the lives of their peers and contribute to student success at CSUCI.

We also employ a smaller team of Student Assistants, whose main duties are hosting the front desk, matching students to tutors, ensuring that the daily data tracking for logging students in and out for LRC services is accurate and timely, monitoring the LRC inbox, answering the phones, booking tutoring appointments, and other associated office duties.

Application Requirements

The tutor application is linked under the "Two Faculty Recommendations Form" section. Before you begin filling out the application you will need the following materials to include in your application. Please read the following carefully before beginning your LRC Tutor Application.

Required Materials

Have the following ready to include in your application:

  1. Cover Letter
  2. Resume/CV
  3. Unofficial College Transcripts from all colleges you have attended
  4. If needed, CSUCI Student Employment Application
  5. Two faculty who have agreed to submit a Tutor Recommendation Form on your behalf.

Student Employment Application

If you are not currently a CSUCI student employee, you will need to complete the Student Employment Application and attach it to your LRC tutor application. Unless you are already a student employed by CSUCI, we cannot proceed with the LRC hiring process without this.

Two Faculty Recommendation Forms

Talk to faculty you have had as a student who teach courses you would like to support as a tutor. You will need to find two faculty willing to complete and submit a Tutor Recommendation Form on your behalf.

  1. Email both faculty the Tutor Recommendation Form and ask them to fill it out and submit it to the Faculty LRC Peer Educator Nomination Form.
  2. You do not need to wait for faculty to email the recommendations to apply. On your application include the names of the faculty who will be sending recommendations.
  3. Please communicate with the faculty to ensure these forms have been sent in. If we do not receive the recommendations by the due date, we will help you follow up with faculty to ensure recommendations are submitted in a timely manner.
