T. Coraghessan Boyle, a world-renowned author of nineteen books of fiction, will be the featured speaker at the University's annual Campus Reading Celebration, scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, on campus. Boyle, who resides near Santa Barbara, will be discussing The Tortilla Curtain, a book written in 1995 that will engage members of the campus community and the public in lively discussions about topical and relevant Southern California themes such as immigration, the economy, and the environment. The author creates strong political, social, and cultural statements through the contrasting lives and lifestyles of an illegal immigrant couple and a wealthy family. The CSUCI Foundation again provided funding to purchase copies of The Tortilla Curtain for the entire campus community free of charge.
