Camarillo, Calif., April 2, 2009 — Six California State University Channel Islands students were awarded scholarships at the sixth annual CPA/Law Society of Ventura County Scholarship Awards luncheon.

CSUCI students who won $3,000 each were seniors Daniel Richard Pawelczyk, Dustin Erickson, Phuong Le, and Jenna Carlock, and juniors Sharlyn Sanders and Algie Klein Dadacay. All are majoring in Business with various emphases. The CPA/Law Society awarded a total of $60,000 to twenty students representing CSUCI, University California Santa Barbara, Pepperdine University School of Law and Ventura College of Law. CSUCI students have been awarded scholarships by the CPA/Law Society scholarship program since its inception in 2004.

Dr. William P. Cordeiro, Senior Associate Dean and Director of the Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics, stated: “The CPA/Law Society has been a long-term and valuable community partner of the MVS School of Business & Economics. We appreciate their generosity and thank them for their financial support of our students.”

The CPA/Law Society is an organization of certified public accountants, attorneys, and other professionals who meet monthly to hear speakers on various topics of professional or personal interest. The sixth annual scholarship luncheon featured keynote speaker, Dr. Terry Schroeder, a four-time Olympian in Water Polo and head coach of the Silver Medal team in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
