Camarillo, Calif., April 16, 2009 — CSU Channel Islands Student Programming Board is hosting their annual SPB Picnic Saturday, April 18 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the North Quad on campus. The event serves as the culmination of the Student Programming Board's "Battle of the Majors" week and features food, fun, family and music. This year’s picnic theme is “All 1 Earth.”
John West, a barefoot musician from Louisiana, will be opening for the nationally-recognized power-pop band Cute Is What We Aim For. The group will be headlining a concert scheduled in the evening. Local vendors from the surrounding community will be showcasing their goods at the event, and CSUCI clubs will be there to conduct fundraising, speak to community members, and share information about their role on campus.
During "Battle of the Majors" week, students work together with members of their major to compete against other majors in various contests. Students earn points by participating in numerous activities and the major with the most points at the end of the competition reigns as champion. The victor of this year's "Battle of Majors" will be announced at the SPB Picnic.
Admission is free for all CSUCI students, staff and faculty as well as children 12 and under. Admission for community members is $10 and tickets may be purchased online at https://csuci.ticketleap.com/Picnic or at the door, if still available on the date of the event. Parking is $6 by daily permit.
