Camarillo, Calif., Mar. 27, 2009—California State University Channel Islands will host a dedication and grand-opening ceremony for the Martin V. Smith Center for Integrative Decision-Making at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 3.
Martin V. “Bud” Smith and his family have been longtime benefactors of the University and their financial support was instrumental in creating the Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics and the new Martin V. Smith Center for Integrative Decision-Making.
“We are honored to celebrate Bud Smith’s continued legacy to this region with the opening of the MVS Center, which will provide state-of-the-art technology and facilitate innovative case teaching and collaborative learning for our students and business community,” said University President Richard R. Rush.
Providing CSUCI business students with real-life business learning opportunities, the MVS Center uses the latest technologies so students are able to engage in computer simulations of running a business, providing hands-on experience in making business decisions with local, national, or global implications.
The MVS Center features a state-of-the art, 60-seat case-study classroom with tiered, semi-circular seating with power outlet, data port, and Internet access at each work station; a large scrolling LED Ticker to display streaming stock quotes and custom messages; two projection screens with video feed from an integrated instructor station; and laptop computers available for computer-supported group participation. Two, eight-seat conference rooms for breakout sessions or small group meetings are also available in the MVS Center.
Meeting and facilitation support services are available to entities at CSU Channel Islands as well as to government, businesses, and non-profit organizations. Services include support for any combination of integrative decision-making methodologies and collaborative tools for electronic brainstorming, voting, business process and workflow modeling, data modeling, and simulation.
Sustainable features of the MVS Center include high efficiency light fixtures and natural lighting, dual glazed windows, sealed concrete in the lobby for sustainable construction and maintenance, carpet containing high-recycled content, acoustic paneling for improved acoustics and occupant comfort, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and reduced lawn area and drought tolerant plants. The design architect for the project was Gruen Associates and the general contractor was PCL Construction Services, Inc. Construction of the 4,148 square-foot MVS Center located on University Drive began in January 2008 and recently was completed.
Parking for the grand-opening ceremony is complimentary and once on campus signs will direct traffic to the parking areas reserved for the event. Additional parking is available at the Camarillo Metrolink Station/Lewis Road and complimentary transportation to and from the campus will be provided on the CSUCI VISTA bus.
