Camarillo, Calif., Feb. 2, 2010 – The Performing Arts program at CSU Channel Islands (CI) will feature internationally acclaimed artist Tim Miller in his latest one man show to be held on Feb. 10, at 8 p.m., in Malibu Hall on the CI Campus.  The event will be part of Miller’s week-long artist residency at CI.

Assistant Professor of Performing Arts, Dr. Catherine Burriss, mentioned that this was Miller’s second visit to campus.  This time he will work with students, visit classrooms and present his own show, “Lay of the Land”.

Tim Miller has performed both nationally and internationally. He is the author of three books, the latest of which, “1001 Beds”, won the 2007 Lambda Literary Award for best book in Drama/Theatre. He has taught performance art at UCLA, NYU, The School of Theology at Claremont, and others.  He is the co-founder of Performance Space 122 in Manhattan and Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica.  As a gay man, he addresses issues in the gay and lesbian communities and, since 1999, has focused his creative and political efforts on marriage equality and injustices facing gay and lesbian couples in America.

Dr. Burriss did a workshop with Tim Miller when she was doing her Ph.D. in Performance Studies at UC Berkeley and said that, “He helps students to use their own individual experiences to create a unique and personal piece of performance art.”

The public is invited to attend the event and is requested to RSVP to 805-437-8598.  Tickets may be purchased with cash at the door.  Admission is free for CI students with ID.  The cost of admission is $15 for the general public, $10 for faculty and staff, and $5 for all other students.
