Camarillo, Calif., March 18, 2013 – CSU Channel Islands (CI) is pleased to announce the 2013 inductees to Mortar Board, the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors for superior achievement in scholarship, leadership and service.

Eight students will be initiated into Mortar Board on Monday, March 25, at 5 p.m. The ceremony will be held in the Archives Courtyard at the John Spoor Broome Library on the CI campus.

Mortar Board is one of the oldest honor societies in the country and an accredited member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Chapters can be found on 229 campuses throughout the country. Mortar Board is a participatory organization that challenges each of its members to actively engage with their campus and community and truly represent the spirit of scholarship, leadership and service. To earn entry, students must be seniors with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, and submit a comprehensive application demonstrating superior scholastic ability, outstanding and continual leadership, and dedicated service to the community. Mortar Board members attend regular meetings and participate in community service and campus enrichment activities.

The initiation ceremony is open to the public. Limited parking is available on campus with the purchase of a $6 daily permit; follow signs to the parking permit dispensers. Free parking is available at the Camarillo Metrolink Station/Lewis Road parking lot in Camarillo with bus service to and from the campus. Riders should board the CI Vista Bus to the campus; the cash-only fare is $1.25 each way. Buses arrive and depart from the Camarillo Metrolink Station every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. For exact times, check the schedule at www.goventura.org.
