Kelly CorriganSept. 22, 2017 — New York Times best-selling author Kelly Corrigan will speak on the CSU Channel Islands (CSUCI) campus on Wednesday, Sept. 27 beginning at 12:45 p.m. in the Grand Salon.

Corrigan’s bestsellers include “Glitter and Glue,” “The Middle Place,” and her latest book “Tell Me More: And Other Important Things I’m Learning To Say,” which inspired the subject of the Sept. 27 presentation, empathy.

“Her topics are so heartfelt, meaningful and relatable to us as individuals in our daily lives and to our responsibilities as humans in our society,” said CSUCI Human Resources Manager, Wendy Olson. “Through her storytelling of true events, we can relate to situations she describes such as cancer, motherhood, weight gain and career stresses. And she does it with honesty, openness and humor.”

Corrigan’s visit is especially poignant because of the tireless efforts of a CSUCI employee and friend of Corrigan’s who passed away on Aug. 11, Crime Prevention & Community Involvement Coordinator Rachel Huff, who was instrumental in asking Corrigan to visit the campus as a guest speaker.

A few days before Corrigan’s presentation, message boards will be placed in the John Spoor Broome Library and the Central Mall to encourage the campus community to write down “the hard things you are learning to say.”

The public is invited to the event, but space is limited. RSVP at: go.csuci.edu/Corrigan.

Limited parking is available on campus with the purchase of a $6 daily permit; follow signs to the parking permit dispensers. Free parking is available at the Camarillo Metrolink Station/Lewis Road with bus service to and from the campus.  Riders should board the CSUCI Vista Bus to the campus; the cash-only fare is $1.25 each way. Buses arrive and depart from the Camarillo Metrolink Station every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. For exact times, check the schedule at www.goventura.org.
