Oct. 3, 2022 - The application for admission to CSU Channel Islands (CSUCI) for the Fall 2023 semester opened Saturday, Oct. 1, with a new streamlined transfer process available for community college students.

CSUCI admission counselors will be offering on-site admission decisions at several local community colleges. In addition, CSUCI will begin accepting lower-division transfer students in Spring 2023. Previously recognized as a barrier, in-progress coursework will now be considered to help transfer students meet admission requirements.

The priority application period for all applicants closes on Nov. 30, but Hung Dang, CSUCI’s Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, recommends that prospective students apply early and then check their email regularly for additional information, deadlines and reminders from the Admission and Financial Aid offices to keep them on track.

This is particularly important for those applying to CSUCI’s impacted programs, Nursing and Mechatronics Engineering. Applicants for these programs should make sure they submit the additional documentation required. The newest of CSUCI’s 27 undergraduate majors is Dance Studies, which launched this semester.

Dang encourages prospective students and their families to visit campus to learn more about CSUCI’s programs and services. After restricting tours to outdoor areas and holding information sessions virtually for the past two years because of COVID-19, CSUCI is once again welcoming visitors to attend all activities in person and enter buildings. On Oct. 22, all prospective students are invited to attend CSYouCI, which will include application workshops, a housing presentation and the opportunity to meet with admission counselors. A Black Student Forum will be held on Nov. 16. Interactive self-paced virtual tours also are available.

“In addition, our admissions counselors are visiting high schools and community colleges as well as participating in college fairs and events again,” Dang said. “We are also offering opportunities for prospective students to meet with our counselors remotely if they prefer.”

More than 80% of CSUCI students receive financial aid. For information on what is available and how to apply for it, visit CSUCI’s financial aid website

Earlier this month, U.S. News & World Report ranked CSUCI as 11th among Top Performers on Social Mobility and 12th among the Top Public Schools on the Best Colleges list of regional universities in the West. Overall, CSUCI ranked 28th in the West.

Students can apply for admission to CSUCI and all other CSU campuses through the systemwide Cal State Apply portal. There is a $70 application fee per university, but CSU officials expect nearly half of applicants will qualify for income-based fee waivers for up to four campuses.
