Camarillo, Calif., April 26, 2004 - Thirty-one California State University Channel Islands students are winners of the University's first scholarship awards. The 2003-2004 scholarship awards, which totaled $30,500, were announced by CSUCI President Richard R. Rush and the University's Foundation Board. The winners were chosen on the basis of academic merit and evaluated by a committee comprised of foundation board members, faculty, and staff.
“The University is very pleased to acknowledge and help these deserving students who reflect the high standards of this institution,” said Dr. Mark Lisagor, foundation chair. “We were very impressed not only with their academic achievements but with their sense of purpose and character as well. We sincerely hope that these scholarships will help them to pursue rewarding careers and, in turn, to become productive members of our community.”
Here are the scholarships and the names of the winners:
The winner of the Altrusa Club/Dorothy Huston Scholarship is Cassandra Weir.
The winners of the Bernard and Barbara Bobitch Scholarships are Dev Chahil, Alexis Rae Del Castillo, Cristine Campos Lee, and Heather Renee Maves.
The winners of the Bostwick Endowed Scholarships are Christopher Anderson, Justin Ray Goleno, Elizabeth Anastasia Grimes, Sam Hunter, and Patrick Laughlin.
The winner of the CSUCI Foundation-Camarillo Noontime Optimist Scholarship is Thomas W. Barker.
The winners of the CSUCI Foundation-Carolyn Lundgren/Angel Scholarships are Marissa Lee Allen, Miriam Andrews, Aline Baca, Michelle Rene Bennett, Lydia Etman, Richelle Fullilove, Arrate Paulina Garcia, Pamela Palomarez, Kathy Roche, and Debra-Lee Sawyer.
The winners of Foundation General Scholarships are Ramona Balderas, Marie Donati, Leticia Garibay, Billy Christopher Garner, Daisy Jiroch, Zora Kirby, Lori Macdonald, Laura M. Naas, Joseph Nozzolillo, and Monica Y. Zepeda.
The scholarships will be presented at the first annual scholarship awards reception on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Conference Hall 1 on the CSUCI campus.
