Camarillo, Calif., June 21, 2007 – California State University Channel Islands President Richard R. Rush announced the appointment of Nancy Covarrubias Gill as the new director of Communications and Marketing.

“Nancy brings a wealth of skills to the position in addition to her long history with the University,” Rush said.

In her new role, Gill will oversee University communication and marketing functions, media relations, serve as the Public Information Officer, act as chair for the annual commencement ceremony, and assist with community and governmental relations.

“I’m excited and honored to serve the University in this capacity and look forward to continuing to work with faculty, staff, and the community in advancing the academic excellence of CSUCI, which is here to serve the residents of Ventura County and beyond,” Gill said.

Gill has been with the University for the past seven and a half years most recently serving as the special assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs and overseeing the area of special projects and student communication. She has been extensively involved with various campus publications, projects, and special events. Before joining CSU Channel Islands, Gill worked in a variety of development, membership and special event positions with St. John’s Regional Medical Center and the Museum of Ventura County.

With more than 20 years of volunteer service, Gill has actively been involved in the local community and has served in various leadership roles with the Oxnard Ambassadors, the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce, Santa Clara Church, and parent involvement with Santa Clara Elementary School.

Gill holds a bachelor’s degree from CSUCI and in the fall will complete a master’s degree in public administration from CSU Long Beach. As a lifelong resident of Oxnard, Gill and her husband of 18 years, Rick Gill, are actively involved with their son’s school and sports activities.
