Camarillo, California, November 8, 2002 ? California State University Channel Islands announced today the appointment of Peggy Hinz as its Director of Communications and Marketing. In this role, Hinz is responsible for directing and executing the University?s communications efforts with regard to media relations, public information, marketing, constituency/donor communications, public affairs, crisis communications and publications. She also serves as press secretary to University President Richard R. Rush and provides public relations counsel to the faculty and other University leadership.

Hinz has more than 18 years of experience in public relations, communications and crisis management. Her most recent post was vice president of communications with The California Endowment, the 14th largest foundation in the country, located in Woodland Hills, California The Endowment foundation was created by Wellpoint Health Networks Inc., based in Thousand Oaks, California.

Prior to The California Endowment, Hinz held increasingly responsible communications roles within the American Red Cross in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., where she served as director of external communications for its National Headquarters. In that capacity, she oversaw communications efforts for 1,300 Red Cross chapters and blood regions and led public information efforts following all major national disasters. She also served as press secretary for Senator Elizabeth Dole during her tenure as President of the American Red Cross.

Hinz is a graduate of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where she received a bachelor?s degree in journalism. She resides in Moorpark, California with her husband Gregory and their young son and daughter.
