Camarillo, Calif., November 6, 2003 - The students at California State University Channel Islands will be holding an induction ceremony for charter members of the Gamma Beta Phi Honors Society, an honor and service organization for students in colleges and universities in the United States. Held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, the induction ceremony will officially launch the Gamma Beta Phi Society Cal State Channel Islands chapter.

To qualify to be a member of Gamma Beta Phi, students must maintain at least a 3.3 grade point average in over 12 units at the University and participate in at least three service projects per academic year. Seventy-six exceptional students will be inducted during the ceremony. Special recognition will be given to the five founding officers of the society, who have initiated the chapter on campus.

In addition to the induction of the students, President Richard R. Rush, Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs Ted Lucas, and the original thirteen founding faculty members of the University will be made honorary members of the chapter for their hard work and commitment to the students of CSUCI.

Over 200 faculty, staff, and members of the local community are expected to attend the event, including two representatives from the Gamma Beta Phi national headquarters: Assistant National Executive Director Jim D. McNutt and National President Tammy Stewart.

The ceremony will be held at California State University Channel Islands Conference Hall 1. For more information contact Shannon Soczek, Executive Assistant, at 805-437-8539.
