Camarillo, Calif., November 13, 2003 - Dr. George Morten, Director of Career, Health, Disability Accommodation, and Counseling & Psychological Services (C.H.A.P.s) at California State University Channel Islands was named “Administrator of the Year” by the California Association for Postsecondary Education and Disability. The award was given during the association's annual convention in October.

The California Association for Postsecondary Education and Disability is a professional association of faculty, staff, and students who serve students with disabilities at California's institutions of higher education. Their mission is to promote the full and effective participation of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of California higher education. Dr. Morten was singled out for his years of service to students with disabilities.

Dr. George Morten earned his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has worked in private practice and as a member of the faculty at University of Wisconsin, Occidental College, and Loyola Marymount University. He was named Coordinator of Student Affairs at California State University, Northridge's Ventura campus in 1996 and later became Director of C.H.A.P.s at Cal State Channel Islands.

“Nobody is more deserving of this honor than Dr. Morten,” states Dr. Wm. Gregory Sawyer, Vice President for Student Affairs. “His hard work and unyielding devotion to students has been a model for us all. He personifies the University and its divisions' commitment to putting students at the center of their educational experience.”

A reception was held to honor Dr. Morten on November 11 in the Cal State Channel Islands President's Garden.
