Career Fair

Local employers from around the region are invited to participate in the second annual California State University Channel Islands Career and Internship Fair, scheduled for Thursday, April 29, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on campus.

Students from CSUCI, community colleges, and high schools, as well as members of the community, are invited to meet with employers who will discuss internships and current and anticipated job opportunities. Last year, approximately seventy firms were represented.

Participants will be able to gather occupational information and learn about part-time, summer, and full employment in a variety of career fields and academic majors. Some of this year's participants include the National Weather Service, the Industrial Tool Co., the Oxnard School District, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Farmer's Insurance, and the FBI.

As a prelude to the fair, CSUCI is offering two free resume-writing workshops. “Developing Winning Resumes” will be held Tuesday, April 13, from 2 - 3:30 p.m. on campus. This session will provide an overview on how to write a professional resume.

The second workshop, “Refine Your Resume,” will be held Tuesday, April 20, from 2 - 3:30 p.m. on campus. This workshop is intended to be a follow-up to the first, although prior attendance is not required. Participants will receive helpful advice on ways to highlight their skills, education, and experience.

Christine Popok, CPA, CSUCI professor of business and English, will conduct both resume workshops.

Participating employers not only provide valuable information to attendees but also gain community visibility for their firm's products and services.

Employers who are interested in participating in the Career Fair or resume workshops should contact Katherine Metzger, CSUCI career development counselor, 805-437-8510, or katherine.metzger@csuci.edu.
