Camarillo, Calif., August 18, 2003 - California State University Channel Islands is actively recruiting businesses to lease space in its new Town Center complex. The three-story structure will be complete in spring 2005. In addition to apartment units, it will house a wide variety of retail, service, and restaurant facilities.
Designed by RTKL Associates, Inc. of Los Angeles, the 90,000 square-foot CSUCI Town Center complex will serve both housing and service needs for the campus and its surrounding communities. The second and third levels of the structure will feature 58 apartments for University faculty and staff. On the ground level will be 30,000 square feet of mixed-use retail space and a stunning central courtyard. The Town Center will serve both the campus community and the nearby University Glen housing development, which, when completed, will total 900 homes for faculty and staff.
Proposed services in the Town Center include a community market, restaurant, mail and reprographics services, commercial office space, food vendors, a coffee shop, and the campus bookstore. Other services are under consideration.
“With the opening of the Town Center, the campus will have a focal point for providing essential services to the University community,” comments George Dutra, Associate Vice President of Operations, Planning, and Construction. “The Town Center will bring a new dimension to the campus that will make coming here user friendly and enjoyable, while also serving the needs of the residential community.”
