Oct. 11, 2019 - This year's Campus Reading Celebration will welcome author and Pulitzer Prize Finalist Tommy Orange to campus on Wednesday, October 23. Tommy will host a keynote presentation, discussing his book, "There There," which was recognized by The New York Times Book Review as one of the 10 Best Books of the Year.

"There There" is a multigenerational, relentlessly paced story about a side of America few of us have ever seen: the lives of urban Native Americans.

Tommy is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma and was born and raised in Oakland, California.  He is a recent graduate from the MFA program at the Institute of American Indian Arts, is a 2014 MacDowell Fellow, and a 2016 Writing by Writers Fellow.

The Campus Reading Celebration will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on October 23 in the Grand Salon; doors will open at 5:30. Admission is free for CSUCI students, faculty and staff (with a valid CSUCI ID) and free for non-CSUCI students with a valid school ID. Tickets for the public are $5 and are required for all attendees.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
