Nov. 23, 2020 - Due to the recent elevation to the most restrictive Purple Tier of COVID-related guidelines in Ventura County, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will no longer be open on campus for the duration of the fall 2020 semester. As a reminder, CAPS was not seeing clients in person but did provide the opportunity for students to knock on the BTE door to schedule an appointment.

To date, no students have accessed this walk-in service on campus since the two cases we had during the first two weeks of classes. Both students reported that they had no concerns about calling for an appointment instead if that was the only option. Below is a summary of the CAPS availability for providing virtual mental health services to students.

  • CAPS remains open for the rest of the fall semester, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for same day crisis intervention services and regularly scheduled appointments via telemental health through 12/11/2020.
  • CAPS remains open over winter break Monday- through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. for same day crisis intervention services and regularly scheduled appointments via telemental health between 12/14/2020 - 1/22/2021.
  • CAPS phones will be answered Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. over winter break, except for official University holidays.
  • 24/7/365 phone counseling remains available by calling the main CAPS phone number: 805-437-2088
  • Consultation with faculty and staff about students of concern remains available; contact Kirsten Olson for more information
