Dear Dolphins:

As we work through this difficult time together, please know that CSUCI remains committed not only to your educational success, but also to your holistic wellbeing. In an effort to support you within and beyond the classroom, I am pleased to share that the campus will be providing financial relief to our students.

How is the campus providing funding?
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed by Congress and signed into law provides economic relief from COVID-19. One section of the CARES Act established the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) and sent money to universities to use for emergency financial relief for students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the pandemic. Students who meet basic eligibility criteria for federal financial aid are eligible to receive these funds.

The CSUCI Financial Aid & Scholarships office will use Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) data to determine student eligibility. Students must have a FAFSA on file to receive money from the CARES Act; however, if you do not currently have a FAFSA on file, it is not too late! Please complete your 2019-20 FAFSA.  For the purposes of the CARES Act Funding, CSUCI students must have a 2019-20 FAFSA on file no later than Sunday, May 31, 2020. For most students who are not eligible to receive CARES funding, they may receive emergency financial relief through other sources of institutional funding.

How will students receive financial relief?
You will receive your financial disbursement in the form of a check, which will be sent to the mailing address listed in your student account. As such, please confirm your mailing address on file in your Student Center in CI Records through myCI as soon as possible.

Applications for Supplemental Funding
In addition to the automatic disbursements outlined above, the campus has also set aside funding to provide additional financial relief to students who have self-identified as having an even greater need. Details regarding the application process for supplemental funding are forthcoming.

Additional Campus Resources
While we hope that the financial assistance provided by the campus will help, we understand that additional needs will likely continue for you and your loved ones during this time. Please know that our Basic Needs Program continues to operate and is available for CSUCI students.

For questions regarding the relief and support outlined above, please visit the campus’ CARES FAQs webpage.

Sincerely,
Erika D. Beck, Ph.D.
President
