Cesar Chavez Day of LearningMarch 26, 2018- CSU Channel Islands (CSUCI) has celebrated César Chávez Day of Service and Learning with various campus and community events bringing awareness to the life’s work of the civil rights leader. To continue this tradition, the Center for Community Engagement, in collaboration with students from Multicultural Children's Art 102, Multicultural Dream Center, Veterans Resource Center, University Outreach and the Boys and Girls Club of Camarillo (BGCC) have planned a daylong University Immersion Experience (UIE) for the BGCC youth around César’s values of education, art and community.

The goals of the UEI are to:

  • create awareness of the life and contributions of César Chávez
  • promote the importance of higher education
  • connect the BGCC youth with CSUCI students

This UIE will benefit both CI students (placing them in a mentoring role) and the BGCC youth by offering workshops (Art, STEM, Unity, Campus Tour). BGCC youth and CI students will be broken up into four groups. Each CI student will be a “buddy” to two-three BGCC youth. Each group will then rotate through all four 1-hour workshops, breaking for an hour lunch.

NOTE: A mandatory hour-long orientation training is required to participate in this service day.

Please RSVP if you plan to participate
