Dear Campus Community:

Ventura County Public Health (VCPH) has confirmed this afternoon and was reported by the news media, a presumptive positive case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and are awaiting secondary confirmation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The patient had traveled on the Grand Princess Cruise Ship from San Francisco to Mexico and returned to the port of entry in San Francisco on Feb. 21, 2020.

The Ventura County patient was not feeling well upon return from the cruise and remained home resting and only left their home to seek medical attention. The patient is currently under home quarantine with mild symptoms. The patient’s spouse was also on the cruise but has no symptoms and also remains under home quarantine.

VCPH has also contacted four other Ventura County residents who were also on the same cruise. One passenger is symptomatic and being tested; the remaining three have no symptoms.

VCPH has indicated that there is no evidence of community transmission involving these cases as they are travel related and the risk to the public in Ventura County from COVID-19 remains low. Community members are encouraged to take the same steps they would to help prevent colds and the flu.

At this time, CSUCI will remain open and classes will continue as scheduled. The University will continue to keep the campus community informed of future developments impacting our region. Please visit the campus website regularly for coronavirus updates and frequently asked questions.
