Nov. 8, 2019 - By all reports, in 2018 Cyber Monday was the biggest shopping day ever. With the holiday season approaching soon, you should make sure you protect yourself against cybercriminals who are looking to take advantage of online shoppers.

Things to do to shop safely during the holidays*:

  • Keep your devices clean: Before searching for the perfect gift, be sure all web-connected devices ‒ PCs, smartphones, and tablets ‒ are free from malware and infections by running the most current versions of software and apps.
  • Secure your login: One of the most critical things you can do in preparation for the online shopping season is to fortify your online accounts by enabling the strongest authentication tools.
  • Conduct research: When using a new website for holiday purchases, read reviews and see if other customers have had positive or negative experiences.
  • Links to emails and attachments: Make sure you open links in emails and attachments when you are expecting them.
  • Check the address bar. Look for https:// (not http)in the URL before using your credit card online.
