Sept. 22, 2020 – Five classrooms being used for in-person instruction this fall are now HyFlex capable, meaning they have been configured with high-quality cameras, microphones and speakers which allow for in-person or online class attendance.

By utilizing permanently installed equipment and remote communication tools like Zoom or Teams, instructors have the ability to interact with students whether they be physically on campus or remote. This new functionality will make remote participation in classes easier and negate the need for faculty to develop multiple sets of curricula.

These proof of concept rooms will also help inform potential changes to CSUCI classroom standards in the future.

Interim Associate Dean, College of Arts & Sciences and Professor of Chemistry Phil Hampton, Ph.D., said, “Hyflex is an impressive technology that will help faculty record videos of lab activities and support the engagement of students who are enrolled in face-to-face labs but are unable to come to the campus. Supporting these students has been a workload issue for faculty and, with Hyflex, faculty will have a new tool to engage remote students in the laboratory setting.”

The five rooms that have been made Hyflex capable are Aliso Hall 133, 134, 231, 234, and Sierra Hall 1344.
