Oct. 4, 2022 - The U.S. Department of Education has awarded $250,000 for Provost Mitch Avila's project “Native American Indigenous Studies Curriculum Development at California State University Channel Islands.”
This project will support the creation of a Native American and Indigenous Studies Program at CSUCI, help meet CSU Ethnic Studies requirement (AB1460) and prepare future K-12 teachers to teach the Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum. CSUCI’s new Native American Indigenous Studies program will increase students’ cultural knowledge and understanding. It advances racial reconciliation, inclusive excellence, and economic justice. The first classes will likely be offered in late 2023 or 2024.
