Sept. 13, 2018 - It seems like everyday a new email or internet scam pops up, targeting personal information and attempting to gain digital access to private data.

It is important to monitor your devices and ensure you are taking every precaution to keep your identifying information secure. Read these tips to learn more about avoiding Malware:

  • Update and patch your devices, apps and software; vendors release updates and patches to fix security issues, not just functionality.
  • Never click suspicious links. Even if the url comes from someone you know, it's safest to manually enter the url into your browser. As a precaution, you can hover over the link to discover the destination; some malicious actors send emails that can look very convincing (this includes links in emails, attachments and on social media).
  • Only download information from trusted sources
  • Be sure to back up your data regularly as this is the best way to protect your important items against data loss.
  • Use antivirus and other malware protective software on your devices.
  • Configure your devices with security in mind. By enabling the security settings on your devices you can protect against malware and other malicious activity.
