Nov. 5, 2018 - A special exhibit will be on display this month, showing part of our country's military history, made possible from the Veteran's Affairs program sponsorship. A collection of helmets, caps and model planes are on display in the Broome Library and will remain on exhibit throughout the month of November. The Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Foundation in Santa Barbara was kind enough to loan the historical mementos, some of which date back to the World War I era, and all of the helmets and caps are authentic.
Be sure to take time this month to thank one of our student, staff or faculty veterans for their service to our country. Veterans Day originated as "Armistice Day" on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans - living or dead - who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.
