Ombuds Day 2021Oct. 12, 2021 - In 2018, the American Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolution declared the second Thursday of October Ombuds Day. This year’s theme is “Ombuds: exploring options to resolve conflict together.”

Interim President Rich Yao has said:

“In Spring of 2019, I chaired the search committee to establish the first University Ombuds Office for CSUCI. Our goal was to foster dialogue across divergent viewpoints and to encourage proactive, informal resolution of workplace conflict. Since then, the ombuds office has helped nearly 300 CSUCI staff, faculty, and administrators through confidential independent, impartial, and informal coaching, facilitated discussions, mediations, and informal climate surveys.

“Additionally, the ombuds office has hosted over 100 educational and outreach events in person and virtually to help people manage conflict in their own spheres. More broadly, I am proud of the role the ombuds office plays in helping establish a culture of fairness and equity at CSUCI for all employees. Happy Ombuds Day 2021.”

The CSUCI Ombuds Office serves all employees in accordance with the founding charter of the program. Information about the Ombuds Office including the types of issues addressed and the office charter can be found on the Ombuds Office webpage. All meetings are confidential and off-the-record; you may schedule an appointment online
