Phone ScammerMay 10, 2018 - Phone scams are on the rise as modern scammers are looking to trick you out of your money or even access your personal information. They can be relentless and often try to incite fear to gain cooperation. Here are some easy tips to remember next time you get a suspicious phone call:

  • Who's calling...and why? All vendors will let you know the company and who you are talking to. Be suspicious of any caller that provides vague information (such as saying they are "calling from corporate)
  • What's the hurry? Fast talkers who use high-pressure tactics could be hiding something. Most legitimate businesses will give you time and written information about needing information such as credit card numbers.
  • Why am I confirming my account information - or giving it out? Never give personal information, including student/staff information, without verifying who you are speaking with.
  • Never give personal information over the phone. A credible company will not call you at random to request your personal information
  • You get a call from Microsoft or Apple. Neither Microsoft nor Apple will ever reach out to you to provide unsolicited technical support.
