Oct. 2, 2018 - Ventura County is home to several military bases and understanding the needs of veterans and possible interventions are key to promoting their health and well-being. Retired Navy Lt. Cmdr. Kimberly Mitchell will visit the campus on Oct. 16 to host a 60-minute presentation addressing the plight of veterans in California. The presentation will be held at 1 p.m. in the Grand Salon.

Ms. Mitchell served in the United States Navy for 17 years as a Surface Warfare Officer serving on board surface ships and at shore commands achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. She was hand-selected by the Secretary of the Navy and the White House to serve as a White House Military Social Aide, where she assisted the President and First Lady from 2007 to 2012 in hosting more than 500 events.

During her last two years on active duty, she served as the Deputy Director of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Office of Warrior and Family Support. She has worked with hundreds of communities, assisted thousands of organizations and created a nationwide network of support utilizing grassroots solutions to address the challenges of transition and reintegration for our service members, veterans and military families.
