Dec. 1, 2023 – Six employees who are new to their supervisor roles recently completed the CSU’s Principles of Supervision course, a month-long deep dive into the key skills needed to be an effective supervisor. Mary McDonnell (University Advancement), Jack Mohr (Environmental Health and Safety), Lisa Racine (University Events), Kristin Steiner (Communication & Public Relations), Bryan Swig (Academic Affairs, Arts & Sciences), and Kara Waycasy (Business & Financial Affairs), are the first cohort to participate in the newly redesigned workshop series that focuses on developing supervisory skills with higher education in mind.
This cohort committed to attend at least 90% of the sessions, completing pre-work before each session, and actively participating with their colleagues and accountability partners during the instructor-led sessions.
Principles of Supervision is a 7-module workshop series, designed by the CSU Chancellor’s Office in partnership with us and several of our sister campuses. Originally launched in 2017, the program was redesigned in 2020 to feature a blend of self-paced learning online and instructor-led, in-person sessions. Participants learn about a variety of topics, including managing yourself, directing and delegating work, performance management, and team engagement. It is designed for supervisors who are new to supervising others, want an update, or plan to continue their learning and growth.
This course will continue to be offered through CSUCI’s Learning and Development department, so keep an eye out for the next opportunity to register!
