Nov. 23, 2020 - With the COVID-19 pandemic not letting up and the need for social distancing, this Cyber Monday will be one of the biggest shopping days ever. With the holiday season here, you should make sure you are protecting yourself against cybercriminals who are looking to take advantage of online shoppers.

Follow these steps to shop safely during the holidays:

  1. Keep your devices updated: Before making any online purchase, be sure that all internet-connected devices ‒ including PCs, smartphones, and tablets ‒ are running the most current versions of the software.
  2. Secure your login: One of the most critical things you can do in preparation for the online shopping season is to fortify your online accounts. Using Multifactor Authentication (MFA) and a password manager can save you grief against cybercriminals.
  3. Use a secure Wi-Fi: Using public Wi-Fi to shop online for gifts is convenient, but it is not safe. Wait until you're home and on your secure network.
  4. Links: Only open links in emails or attachments when you are expecting them.
  5. Check the address bar. Look for https:// (not http) in the URL before paying online.
