Feb. 10, 2026 – California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) will host its Annual Conference for Social Justice in Education on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at CSUCI’s Grand Salon. This year’s conference theme is: “El Amor Como Resistencia: Healing and Educational Justice for our Immigrant Communities.”

The conference highlights social justice–oriented work taking place in schools and educational institutions throughout the region and brings together educators, students, and community members committed to equity and transformative education. The conference provides opportunities to network with others who believe in the power and necessity of social justice in education and to learn strategies for teaching and learning that promote equity, peace, and integrity in public education.

Featured speakers include Antero Garcia, professor in the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University. Garcia’s research explores the role of speculative imagination and healing in educational research. Before earning his Ph.D., he taught English at a public high school in South Central Los Angeles. He has authored or edited more than two dozen books examining how literacies, play, and civic engagement can transform schooling in the United States. Antero Garcia and Alix Dick

Also featured is Alix Dick, a filmmaker, researcher, and writer originally from Sinaloa, Mexico. Dick is the author of The Cost of Being Undocumented: One Woman’s Reckoning with America’s Inhumane Math. She has worked closely with immigrant rights organizations and was named an Artist Disruptor by the Center for Cultural Power.
