Camarillo, Calif., Jan. 17, 2007 - California State University Channel Islands Performing Arts Program will host performing artist Tim Miller for a performance of his solo piece, “Glory Box,” at 8 p.m. on Jan. 31.

Miller's performance is part of a week-long residency focused on a student performance workshop.

“Glory Box” will be performed on the campus of CSUCI in Malibu Hall 100. There is no charge for CSUCI students with student identification. Tickets are $10 for other students with identification; $10 for CSUCI faculty and staff; and $15 for the public. The box office is cash only and will open one hour prior to the performance. Reservations are encouraged, contact 805-437-8598. On-campus parking for the event is $6. Parking and shuttle service from the Camarillo Metrolink Station is free for those attending the performance.

Miller is an internationally acclaimed performance artist whose work as a performer and writer explores his artistic, spiritual and political identity as a gay man. “Glory Box” focuses on same-sex marriage and the struggle for immigration rights for lesbian and gay bi-national couples.

“I want the piece to conjure for the audience a new glory box, a new kind of hope chest, that can be an alternative site for the placing of memories, hopes, and dreams of gay people's extraordinary potential for love,” explained Miller.

Miller has taught performance in the theater department at University California Los Angeles and the dance program at Cal State Los Angeles.

Following the performance, Miller's books - “Shirts & Skin,” “Body Blows: Six Performances,” and “1001 Beds: Performances Essays, and Travels” will be on sale and the author will be available to sign copies.
