Feb. 15, 2019 - Assistant Professor of Nursing, Jaime Hannans, PhD, and Assistant Professor of Communication, Jacob Jenkins, Ph.D., have been selected as Educational Leaders of the Year by the Ventura County Leadership Academy (VCLA). They were selected for the award due to their work with openCI to address textbook affordability.
Both faculty members coordinate the openCI effort, which has brought the first three undergraduate "Z-Majors" in the entire CSU system (a Z-Major refers to courses that have zero textbook costs). Additionally, there are now over 100 faculty adopters spanning nearly 20 programs on campus, and a staggering $1.5 million in student savings - and counting!
The Ventura County Leadership Academy connects passionate, capable leaders through immersion in critical issues shaping Ventura County and opportunities for personal and professional growth. They will host the 2019 VCLA Journey to Leadership Awards Luncheon on Thursday, April 18 at 11:30 a.m. in Moorpark, where Jaime and Jacob will accept their award. Tickets may be purchased online.
