April 26, 2018- Beginning in August, nearly 50,000 local college students, including those who attend CSUCI, will be eligible to ride public-transit buses for free.
The Ventura County Transportation Commission recently approved funding for the new “College Easy Ride” program, aimed at increasing ridership on public-transit buses. Set to start on Aug. 20 and run through May 31, 2019, the program will allow students at five local colleges and universities, including CSUCI, to ride those public-transit buses for free.
Students have already expressed interest in using the program and if it’s successful, it could go on past the initial one-year pilot. Funding is made possible by the state’s Low Carbon Transit Operations Program.
