SOE ECS Professor Betsy Quintero Selected as Fullbright Specialist to Macedonia

Elizabeth Quintero, Professor of Education and Coordinator of Early Childhood Studies has been invited to participate in a Fulbright Specialist grant during the month of October at the University of Skopje, in Macedonia.

The Faculty of Philosophy, Department of Pedagogy has requested contributions regarding pre-school and primary education. The Activities Requested include:

• Participate in or lead seminars or workshops at overseas academic institutions
• Consult with administrators and instructors of post-secondary institutions on faculty development
• Develop and/or assess academic curricula or educational materials
• Conduct teacher-training programs at the college/university level

Project Description

Teacher training is still a new concept in Macedonia and the school system needs vastly improved teacher practice and mentoring programs. The goal is to develop a step-by-step program that gives public school teachers the guidance and confidence to succeed as future teachers. Also, a review of U.S. pre-school and elementary school policy and curriculum would be very valuable for the department and its teachers.

Project Purpose is to develop a train the trainers approach to instill these skills into young teachers and develop the professional ongoing dialogue to build mentoring into the long-term professional career. Build a program and curriculum for university teaching staff to work with in the years to come.
