Movies with Mo: Dukale’s Dream – Sept. 2

Dukale's DreamWe are excited to start our Movies with Mo documentary series with Dukale’s Dream on Wednesday, Sept. 2 6 -- 8 p.m. in Malibu Hall 100. This is a documentary about the inspiration behind Hugh Jackman's fair trade coffee company, Laughing Man Coffee.

Come learn about how a cup of coffee can change a community. There will be a coffee drawing at the end of the film.

Groundwork Coffee: Free tasting – Sept. 2

Did you know that all coffee served on campus is from Groundwork Coffee? There will be free coffee tasting starting at 5 p.m. at Malibu 100 to kick off the screening of Dukale's Dream. Stop by and take a sip.

Native American Heritage Celebration – Sept. 9

On Wednesday, Sept. 9, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Intercultural Services will be hosting the Native American Heritage Celebration in the Student Union. This event will provide students the opportunity to learn more about the Native American Culture. We are featuring the work of Alan “Spirit Hawk” Salazar who will present the history of Chumash culture. CI’s Raudel Banuelos, Director of Facility Support and a Chumash Elder will also present sage bundling. Come and learn how CI has integrated the Chumash culture since the inception of the University.

Movies with Mo: Underwater Dreams – Sept. 16

Underwater DreamsOn Wednesday, Sept. 16, Intercultural Services will kick-off the celebration of Latino Heritage Month (Sept. 15 through Oct. 15) with the screening of Underwater Dreams. The film will be shown on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 6 at 8 p.m. in Malibu Hall 100.

The documentary is about four undocumented Mexican high school students entering a competition to learn how to put together a robot that could function underwater. Through many trials and errors, and a few unpredictable tools, these students ended up winning the competition and beating MIT during the process. This story has now created a legacy that has inspired those who doubt what is possible.

After the film, Cindy Wyels, Professor of Mathematics and CI Dreamers will speak about science and what it means to be undocumented in California.

Chris Botti Live in Concert – Sept. 19

Chris BottiCSU Channel Islands Foundation and Rabobank present Chris Botti, Live in Concert! Join us for the annual President’s Dinner and benefit concert featuring the unique and expressive sound of Grammy Award-winning trumpeter, Chris Botti. Don’t miss this intimate concert under the stars on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Libbey Bowl in Ojai.

Passport to Personal Health and Safety Fair – Sept. 23

Join us at the Passport to Personal Health and Safety Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 10 am to 3 pm at the North Quad and Grand Salon. This free event is being offered in collaboration by Human Resources, Wellness & Athletics, and the Emergency Preparedness Fair organizers to provide all campus employees with information on a variety of opportunities afforded to them at CI. Vendors and representatives from each of the areas will be available to answer questions and provide more information. This fair coincides with the open enrollment period for health benefits. Emergency Preparedness Fair – Sept. 23

September is National Preparedness Month. Students, faculty and staff are invited to the Emergency Preparedness Fair on Sept. 23, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the North Quad. Preparedness vendors will be on hand to provide information on making emergency plans and to demonstrate preparedness products. Products will be available for purchase or to place orders. There will also be a free raffle with prizes!

Dodger Day – Oct. 4

Dodger DayCI is taking over Dodger Stadium! Join over 1,000 CI students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community friends for the 12th Annual Dodger Day on Sunday, Oct. 4. Cheer on Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean as he throws out the first pitch. Root for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they take on the San Diego Padres.
