ACHA-NCHA Announcement

We need your support, your input is extremely important to us. During the second and third week of February, Wellness Promotion & Education (WPE) will be participating in the CSU system-wide administration of the National College Health Assessment (NCHA). An invitation letter containing a link to the survey will be emailed to all CI students on Feb. 8. The NCHA survey will be accessible on-line until Feb. 19. The survey will consist of 66 questions and should take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.

The NCHA allows CI to get to know students’ habits, behaviors and perceptions on the most prevalent health topics. The information confidentially obtained through the survey will allow the University and the Division of Student Affairs to expand and improve health programming and services. All students who submit a survey will automatically be entered into a random drawing to win one of 20 gift cards to the CI Bookstore.

For additional information please contact Deborah Gravelle, Director of Wellness Promotion & Education at ext. 3177 or deborah.gravelle@csuci.edu.

“Every Drop Counts” – Campus Drought Update

California has been experiencing drought conditions for many years. On April 1, 2015, the Governor of California directed statewide mandatory water reductions. Every area of the state was ranked into tiers for a reduction requirement relative to 2013. CI has been noted on Tier 8, which means that we need to reduce potable (drinking) water by 32%. As of November 2015 we are only down 6.6%.

Here are some ways CI is already saving water, potable and recycled:

  • Installing low gallon-per-flush toilets (and considering installing event lower consumption models)
  • Installing waterless urinals
  • Installing low flow aerators in faucets
  • Waiting longer between vehicle and equipment washes
  • Watering all landscape with recycled water
  • Converting grass areas to planters covered in mulch, enhanced with drought resistant plants
  • Cutting back up to 50% on watering on turf areas

Here are some additional ways to help reduce the water use on campus and at your own house:

  • Turn off the faucet while you brush your teeth, shave, or wash your hands.
  • Wash only full loads of laundry and dishes
  • Keep your showers to a maximum of 5 minutes
