Farmworker Immersion Project – Apr. 1
In collaboration with the Chicana/o Studies program, House Farm Workers!, and Reiter Affiliated Companies, the Center for Community Engagement presents the Farmworker Immersion Project (FIP). FIP is a program that places students in the community to learn about farmworker rights and immigration issues.
The FIP will guide students through a first-hand experience of typical farm work life in Ventura County. We will visit a local berry farm where students will learn about the agricultural business in our county, then work for more than an hour in the field as the farm manager instructs on how to harvest berries. In the afternoon, we will travel to an affordable housing community to speak with farm worker families in their homes. Finally, we will come together for a group reflection.

César Chávez Day of Service – Apr. 8
In recognition of the work and life of César Chávez, CI’s Serve It Up team will participate in the spring service day at FOOD Share. Join us on Friday, Apr. 8 from 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. In small groups, we will take part in food sorting, planting and gardening in the senior garden and participating on a gleaning trip to source more fresh food for Ventura County.
All participants will be provided with a Serve It Up t-shirt if they do not already have one, lunch, transportation and a great experience.
CI's Serve It Up campaign is a yearlong program developed in collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs that provides the Channel Islands community with service opportunities throughout Ventura County.
*CI students, staff and faculty will be taken by Roadrunner Shuttle to FOOD Share sites. Participants will meet at the Sage Hall parking lot at 8 a.m. and ride a bus together to the service site. The bus will return to CI by 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be served at the service site.

Frances Huggins Community Clinic Health Fair and Street Store – Apr. 30
In collaboration with the Center for Community Engagement, Nursing program, and B.A. Huggins Ministries, Capstone students Briana Huizar and Emily Hops are presenting the Frances Huggins Community Clinic Health Fair and Street Store on Saturday, Apr. 30 from 2 - 6 p.m.
Health Fair vendors will be providing literature and resources on a variety of health topics focused on the theme of "Healthy Kids, Healthy Family". The Street Store is a dignified pop-up store consisting of donated clothing where the underserved community of central Oxnard could procure items they would otherwise not have access to, all free of charge. Donations of new and gently used clothing and shoes are being collected for distribution to children and the homeless. Volunteers are also needed for the day of the event.
