The CI website preview at http://www.csuci.edu showcases the updated design of the website and includes new content and functionality to support the University’s web communication strategy.
When will the web pages and sites in the preview replace the ones in the existing website?
Due to the scope of the changes being applied, the website migration will proceed in phases. A triage approach shall be used in completing the migration and quality checks on new and existing content. View the list of sites and corresponding migration phases.
Generally, migration of all pages and sites will transition to the next phase once at least 85% of web content within the previous phase has been successfully migrated, and any remaining migration tasks for the phase are on-hold.
When will the new CI home page go live?
It’s expected to go live August 15, 2014.
What dates will specific unit/department sites be migrated?
The migration of Phase 1 sites will begin on July 15, 2014 and complete on August 15, 2014. Dates of individual page/site migrations are subject to change. View the list of sites and corresponding migration phases. Phase 2 and remaining sites will begin migration after September 2, 2014.
How are the migration phases organized?
Migration of websites is organized based on importance of migrated content to CI’s web communication strategy and proximity of linked content to the redesigned University home page.
How do I know when migration of my page/site is complete?
You will be notified by a member of the Web Services team that the migration of your page/site has been completed.
Should I continue to update the content on my current web page/site?
Yes. Please continue updates to content of your current website until you are notified by a member of the Web Services team.
How will you make my new unit/department site live?
The Web Services team shall notify the primary website contact for all websites in a given phase that their edit access to their organization’s web pages/site will be temporarily disabled. This notification shall be sent at least 5 days in advance of cut-off. During this time, any changes to the existing website shall be sent to the ITS Help Desk and may be subject to delayed posting.
According to the provided schedule, Web Services shall then disable edit access to all sites in a given phase. During this time, all requests for content changes must be sent to the ITS Help Desk. Due to the timing and scope of work required, campus organizations may experience delays in posting updated content during this period.
Web Services team members shall migrate new content to the new site as appropriate, and make adjustments to the design and organization of content within the new site as needed. In addition, Web Services shall apply the new mobile-friendly website template to all existing pages in the designated migration phase.
The Web Services team will then notify the primary website contacts in the phase that the migration is ready for their final review.
Website subject matter experts will then check pages/sites to verify content and interactive elements within a 2 week period, and report discovered issues will be reported via the “Give us your feedback” button on each page.
Once final review is completed, Web Services shall repair, to the best of its ability, all discovered issues within a 1 week window.
Once the 1-week repair process is complete, Web Services shall publish all new and updated content for the scheduled phase, replacing the old site as appropriate.
Upon successful completion of publishing, Web Services shall re-enable edit access to new website content as appropriate.
Organizations may continue to test their new site and report discovered issues to the ITS Help Desk for assistance with repair.
Will you entirely redesign my unit/department website?
It depends. In many cases, key websites have been entirely redesigned to better align with CI’s web strategy and institutional goals. For approximately 20% of University pages and sites, this means that content has been reorganized and renamed, new content has been written, new photos have been taken and selected, and new functionality has been added.
For the remaining 80% of pages and sites, the web refresh reflects a new, modern visual look-and-feel as well as an improved user experience for mobile device users (resulting from our implementation of a responsive website design) to access existing University web content.
I want to redesign my site, how soon can you help me with it?
Top priority will be given to the migration of existing sites into the new template architecture. Web Services will attempt to retain existing information architecture, content and design of most sites as they are migrated to the new template. Once the migration of a given site is complete, edit access for those sites will be restored to the assigned content editors for further content changes and updates.
During the migration period, Web Services will not be able to provide website re-designs for organizations with existing websites until the migration is completed. Once migration is completed, website re-designs will be prioritized according to alignment with institutional web strategy as well as resource availability.
