SAVE THE DATE: TBD

The CSUCI Police Department is excited to announce we will be hosting the first Annual CSUCI Police Hot Pursuit 5K run on the CSUCI campus.

This inaugural 5K is being planned to expand our fundraising efforts to support the endowment of a student scholarship for those who have been affected by cancer.

We started on the journey of fundraising for this student scholarship fund a number of years ago following the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Rachel Huff, who was our CSUCI Police Community Involvement and Crime Prevention Coordinator for seven years. In her role as Public Safety’s Community Involvement Coordinator, Rachel endeavored tirelessly to bring us RAD events, the annual Aut2Run Races, Community Safety Day and so many other worthy, University mission-based experiences. Her love of this campus, the students and her colleagues was apparent in everything she accomplished. For those of us who were fortunate enough to know her, Rachel was always a beacon of light and kindness.

Rachel’s commitment to volunteerism and her community was well-known and deeply respected. Rachel was the Board President for the Tri-Counties Association for the Developmentally Disabled for seven years, and at the same time was a Wish Granter with the Make a Wish Foundation. In the final years of her life with us, Rachel wrote for Working Mother Magazine, documenting her journey through her terminal illness while remaining a devoted and engaged mother. Rachel was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma (a particularly rare and aggressive type of bone cancer) and battled the disease for several years before ultimately passing away in August of 2017. Rachel is survived by her husband and two children.

Following the loss of Rachel, CSUCI Police was the first law enforcement agency in Ventura County to join the Pink Patch Project and began our fundraising campaign for what we hope to call the CSUCI Police Rachel Huff Memorial Scholarship for students who have been affected by cancer.

The goal of this First Annual 5K event is to expand our fundraising activity to hopefully grow the scholarship fund so that we can finally get a scholarship endowed. This event is aimed at being a fun community event which Rachel would have loved and worked hard to plan.

More information will be coming soon.
