Santa Rosa Island Research Station-Closed until further notice in Response to COVID-19

The CI Santa Rosa Island Research Station (SRIRS) is open upon space availability for qualified participants, we encourage diversity and interdisciplinary activities. All use must be approved and coordinated, please contact It is imperative that all station users adhere to the station rules and policies (PDF, 177K). All visiting CI students must follow the student code of conduct and if found in violation, are liable to be banned from future station visits and activities. 

  • Research including studies conducted under teacher supervision, undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, or professional scientists
  • Education - University, College, High School, or Middle School classes that have an emphasis on education that is focused on the island and would benefit from an outing to Santa Rosa Island
  • Service Learning - Public purposes including Housing Only, K – 12 Class, Other Class, Conference or Symposium, Academic Meeting, Community Event or Club

Visitor Experiences

At the SRIRS bunkhouse we keep a logbook that visitors use to record memories and testimonials of their time on Santa Rosa Island. We are on our third volume, volume 1 and 2 have been scanned and added to the University Library database, see below.

The goal of the station, to provide a safe forum for the discovery and rich exchange of information, is dependent upon your consideration for and receptivity of fellow station users.  All individuals must sign a CSUCI Waiver (PDF, 118KB) prior to or upon entering the station. Each group leader is also responsible for ensuring that each participant has submitted a CI liability waiver and read and accepted the station policies and rules (PDF, 177K). Group leaders are also responsible for all visitors that they have brought to the SRIRS. 

Visitors are asked to submit an on-line application to apply for access to the station and describe their intended use.  After completing your application, please contact the SRIRS,  Please be sure to review our new  user rates and fees EFFECTIVE JULY 1ST 2021(PDF, 30KB) and look at the SRIRS Calendar before selecting your dates to ensure that space and resources are available for your visit.
