President’s Award for Innovations Winner

Antonio Jiménez Jiménez, Professor and Chair of Spanish/Languages, is the recipient of this year's President’s Award for Innovations in Teaching and Learning, presented to a faculty member who has made significant contributions to the teaching mission of the University.

Applications are judged by a panel of three outside reviewers. The criteria include: impact on students; a scholarly approach to teaching and learning; contributions to undergraduate education; and support from colleagues and students.

Antonio was selected for his commitment to international initiatives. The centerpiece of his efforts is a prototype of transformative study abroad programs and their ability to change student lives. One of his students, recent graduate Alejandra Castellanos, credits her experience in Professor Jiménez's UNIV 392 last summer in Málaga, Spain with increasing her confidence. Alejandra, who begins a doctoral program at UC Irvine this fall, said that the class enabled her to find out that she could make decisions without support from anyone.

Changes to Island View Orientation

New Student, Orientation & Transition Programs is excited to announce that there are big changes coming to CI this summer. All newly admitted freshmen AND transfer students MUST attend a mandatory Island View Orientation (IVO). Now that IVO is mandatory for all incoming transfer students, staff will have the opportunity to meet and greet all incoming students, and faculty will continue to meet transfer students during the Academic Advising portion of the orientation.

Mark your calendars for both Transfer Island View Orientation (TIVO) and Freshman Island View Orientation (FIVO) and consider reserving your space early for the marketplace. The marketplace provides an opportunity to showcase all the fun and exciting events and/or programs that take place during the academic year, in a casual format during lunch.

Information on 2016 dates and sessions for both freshman and transfer students can be found on the IVO website.

If you are interested in participating, please register using the following link: https://cidsa.wufoo.com/forms/ivo-marketplace-2016/.
