The Academic Master Plan (AMP) is a document that tracks the degree granting academic programs at CSUCI. Per CSU requirements, the AMP includes several components, often presented as separate files:

  • academic programs currently being offered by the campus;
  • programs approved by the Board Of Trustees (BOT) for curriculum development and predicted  implementation year;
  • list of accredited programs; and
  • academic year of program review report due.

Current Academic Master Plan

CSUCI's complete current AMP (PDF, 206KB) document can be downloaded by stakeholders.

The AMP is published by the Chancellor's Office Academic Programs office, containing the undergraduate and graduate degrees approved for the campus.

CSU requirements for  new academic program proposal inclusion in AMP

The Chancellor's Office sets the annual deadline for new program proposals submission, and informs the campus Presidents. The Academic Programs Office informs the campus stakeholders, and invites faculty to submit new program proposals. The new programs are to indicate the intended academic year for implementation, within 10 years of the proposal submission. Per the current CSU rules, the approved implementation year can only be postponed one time, for one academic year.

Baccalaureate, masters and doctorate programs must be approved by the BOT and included in the AMP prior to curriculum development and implementation. New program proposals are submitted by the campus Academic Programs designee once instructed by the University President and Provost, and after consideration and approval of academic senate recommendation.

Summary of process to submit new academic program proposal to AMP

Senate Policy SP 18-06 Academic Planning Process (MS Word, 69KB) describes the process for program planning and curriculum approval at CSUCI. Campus policies must align with CSU requirements for new program proposals, in order to be submitted for BOT consideration. The CSU requirements can be found at the CO's program development page.

For a new program proposal to be submitted to the BOT, the minimum following steps need to be followed:

  • discussion with internal and external stakeholders reflecting general support;
  • ensure support from program faculty, Chair and School Dean;
  • a new program proposal submitted through Curriculog, through the appropriate form (commonly known as short-form -- not full curriculum proposal);
  • the program proposal must be filled to satisfy
    • all CSU and BOT requirements ;
    • information required by campus policy; and
    • reflect on administrative considerations brought forward by Academic Affairs;
  • request Academic Programs support when in doubt about any of the requirements or check list;
  • the new program proposal needs to be approved by the Chair and School Dean;
  • the program proposal is communicated, documentation made available and present ed to the campus constituents, with opportunity for feedback;
  • the School Dean and Provost submit assessment and recommendation, in writing, through Curriculog;
  • the proposal is reviewed and recommended to the Senate by the Academic Programs and Planning Committee;
  • the new program proposals go before the Academic Senate and are recommended to the Provost, following campus policy and process;
  • Provost and President support and approve the recommendation and inform the AVP for Academic Programs, in writing; and
  • the Academic Programs Office prepares all the documents and submits to the Chancellor's Office.

Communication and publication of approved AMP

The Academic Programs informs the Academic Senate, Academic Affairs leadership and the Office of the President when the campus proposed AMP is submitted to the Chancelor's Office. The section of the campus AMP new proposals is updated and published on the last page of the campus AMP document (PDF, 206KB), as required by the CO.
