Program Review and Assessment

The five-year academic Program Review cycle provides a mechanism for faculty and administration to evaluate the effectiveness of their academic programs on a continuous basis. The intent is for the University to evaluate a program’s strengths and weaknesses within the contexts of emerging directions in the discipline and the mission of CSU Channel Islands.

Academic program review is mandated by Chancellor’s Office which asks each campus to “establish a formal performance review procedure for all existing degree programs . . in order to assess periodically both the quantitative and qualitative viability of each undergraduate and graduate program in the total context of your offerings.” Academic Senate policy implements this directive, and through the Program Assessment and Review Committee (PARC), the University implements guidelines about conducting these reviews.
