Q: What is the difference between asynchronous and synchronous courses?

A: A virtual synchronous course is a course where students will be required to attend class at a specified time, albeit virtually (for example, through zoom). Class meeting times are noted on the class schedule. A virtual asynchronous course is a course where students will NOT be required to attend class at a specified time.

Q: I need to come to campus and pick up items from my office space on campus. When can I go?

A: Please see the Arts & Sciences Access Plan. Time slots are designated according to the first letter of your last name. This plan applies to both faculty and staff.

Q: Am I allowed to come at a day/time other than what has been designated on the Access Plan?

Requests to visit your workspace at an alternate time must receive approval from AD Phil Hampton prior to access.

Q: Do I need to request permission to come to campus in order to pick up library rentals?

A: No permissions are needed for an individual to go to the library and remove materials from the lockers. However, please note that the library provides a limited amount of days in which to retrieve your rentals.

Q: How is campus mail being distributed?

A: Mail Services is regularly distributing mail across campus and have advised faculty/staff to check building mailrooms for any items they may be expecting. Please make sure you have a functioning keycode to your designated mailroom.

Q: I don't have a keycode for external building doors. During what hours are campus buildings unlocked?

Please see the Fall 2020 Building Access schedule. Campus buildings with face-to-face classes are open during scheduled class time on weekdays only. All existing designated keycodes still function on campus doors.

Q: I need to be able to work from my office/studio/campus space throughout the semester; do I follow the A&S Access Plan to do this?

A: The A&S Access Plan is designed for short visits to the campus to visit your office, not for an on-going access to your office. Contact your Chair to determine whether the Department has filed a COVID Worksite Specific COVID-19 Prevention Plan with Environment Health & Safety. If the department has submitted this plan, then you need to complete a COVID-19 Hazard Assessment form and have your Chair to sign this form as your supervisor. Complete the COVID safety training and send a copy of the acknowledgement of completion of the training and/or the certificate of completion to your Chair. You Chair will need to submit the COVID Worksite Specific COVID-19 Prevention Plan, COVID-19 Hazard Assessment form, and certification of COVID-19 safety training to Environment Health and Safety.

Q: I would like to have some students come to campus with me to work on a project. What is the process for me to do this?

A: Students are approved be on campus to attend in-person classes during the scheduled class time only. The only other students who are permitted to be on campus are students who are living in the dorms or students who are part of faculty-student research project that has been approved through the Dean. No other student access to campus is approved.

Q: I noticed the signs on campus that say it is closed. What should I do if I see people on campus who are not social distancing/wearing face masks or who do not appear to have approval to be on campus?

A: EHS should be called if there is a person or a group of people who are violating any of the face covering/social distancing rules as follows:

Face mask rules:

Outdoor- face mask required if 6 foot distance between two or more individuals is not maintained
Indoor- face mask required at all times except when alone in a room

Social Distancing rule: Indoor and outdoor – maintain 6 foot distance between individuals at all times

Exceptions:

When an assigned task requires two or more employees to be less than 6 feet apart

When eating/drinking at a table outside of a restaurant or other establishment

If students are spotted on campus and not violating any rule, EHS and Police Dispatch do not need to be called. If people other than students, employees or contractors are spotted in or near buildings (including patios), EHS should be called. For any disturbance (arguments, fighting, entering closed buildings, etc.), Police Dispatch should be called.
